Increlution walked so Terraformental could fly!  :)

While the Increlution inspiration and mechanics are on clear display here - you've done something somewhat rare: Make something that signifigantlt expands on the inspiration - and does it better at the same time.

Increlution is a lot of fun, but I think that your mechanics require significantly more interesting decision-making with dramatically more interesting consequences in both the short and long term. There's a lot more thinking, planning, and more to puzzle out - and a real sense of progression that is based on those decisions rather than inevitability from grind.

To explain what I mean a little better:
It *matters* that I decided to not push to my original objective and instead do that one-time search or reading of logs... even if it ends up being a useless log (or 'useless for now' ), there's a permanence to having removed that from my checklist forever; that decision feels good and it feels like the progress was in my hands.
And I probably would have felt the same if I had chosen not to read the logs but instead break into that room, get more 'pow-wa' brand power-bars, and stave off starvation long enough to do some other thing (or perhaps to turn right around and read the logs without starving to death).

In short - you've set up some really incredible gameplay here, and I can't wait until you have even more to show. I've already wish-listed this on Steam and I will be encouraging my friends to do so as well.

Really well done - you should be proud of this work.

(1 edit)

you should post this on steam if you haven’t already

Question to other commenters, is there much use for the quick-cycle water filter at the moment? Using it on the rover stops me from installing the generator to use fuel on the long drive, and I can't seem to install it (to avoid spoilers) anywhere useful, further away.

Maybe I take the filter back to the start for the endgame or something?

PS: does the tram ever actually break down if you boost it? I guess I could do a loop with the air recycler, running it back and forth to test that...

(2 edits)

in the current build, no, there is no point to using the quick cycle filter because the base recycler produces water faster than you consume it (w/ storage artifact). The reason you can’t install it in other locations is because you can’t get to the internals of the recyclers at other locations. The boost only increases the chances of power surges damaging the tram iirc. But unless you’re using it constantly it should never burn out

*also solar panels will allow you to generate power without the generator, meaning you can have the recycler*

To also minimize spoilers: there are windows where the rover can be supplied with sufficient power without the generator, and taking the upgraded water recycler allows skipping certain extremely time-consuming scavenging options in favor of reaching places earlier.

also means you can use these options as opportunities to recharge rover’s batteries (assuming solar panels)

I found a way around the MacOS bug on 4.5.20. I downloaded a script called "Gatekeeper" and it allowed me to run the app.

am I a brick or does the game say there's a solar panel at talos when there isnt?

(+1)

there is. You need to have the frame installed on the rover in order to install the panels though

(+2)

I believe you need to leave/exit the rover on foot while also being outside to do so, it kinda blends in with the other travel options.

(+1)(-1)

Out of curiosity, no pressure intended. When can we expect the next update?

(1 edit) (+6)

As stated on the dev log here and the announcements channel on Discord: The next update will be the Steam release in January. The update will also be available here, but initially only the download version and paid-only.

(+2)

thank you! I’m not currently in the discord so I hadn’t gotten that information

(+2)

Love the game so far! The various artifacts and their effects on gameplay are interesting, especially!
We have an artifact that affects time, an artifact that gives more milage to consumables, and an artifact that multiplies power output.
Makes me curious what use the Santorini Artifact would have in gameplay. Would it be a power source like the staff initially thought, or would it be an explosive for clearing obstacles like the collapsed tunnel?

And what other Artifacts are out there, waiting for us? :D

(1 edit) (+1)

I always had an idea that Santorini Artifact would allow us to:

Expand our storage,No not the milage to consumables, +5 to items STORED, cuz it's bassically THE MOST important part of the game, and Santorini would be last of the artifacts we would get, soo its gotta be useful. (The artifact STORES energy, but after some time it overloads and Bassically inf-duplicates energy aka GIANT KABOOM)

Additional artifacts:

-Something from Pneuma (That place with glaciers AND a medical facility,)

I allways imagined it would have smth to do with ice......maybe +10 to water IN YOUR BODY before you die?.... Or...hear me out....

An artifact that enables us to read memories/important info from DECEASED people.

It would be a GREAT addition, soo many new things to check (remember, literally EVERY FACILITY WE BEEN TO had cryopods with dead people, also if you remember to check lost rover there were corpses there too!!)

It would be another good way to explain where everyone from Laurion went (like wtf did they fly out in a ship or smth??)  and to get new stuff at old locations (Like an engineer who got old-ed to death leaving a hidden spot with supplies in a vent or smth in Talos)

-Something from Strabos (Apparently an energy farm via Solar Panels, something to do with heat?)

(+2)

Really engaging for a semi-idle game. I do think it gets kind of hard to track whats going on even with the PDA after a certain point. I sometimes just forget stuff. Though that might just be a problem for me.

(+2)

yeah, I kinda wish you could write in the PDA somewhere just so you could make little notes to yourself…

(1 edit) (+2)(-3)

I mean you can always just use that nifty little program that comes preinstalled with windows, called notepad. It's pretty good! Or even better, excel :D

(+1)

sure, or you could complain to get a feature installed xD. Also not everyone is playing on a computer

(+5)

While I'm not entirely against the idea of a simple notepad in the game, it's very low priority, and honestly unlikely to actually happen. In particular, if I did add it, it likely wouldn't be enabled on the browser version, since browsers have very strict size limits on how much data you're allowed to store in them.

(1 edit) (+2)

oh well, time to get out the pencil & paper XD

(1 edit)

For sure. In a similar theme, I think it would be great to add more detail to the map - previewing the travel tasks for example. It's quite hard to remember each travel stage when many journeys are multi-part. Even counting the number of stages, or some sort of base travel time note (wouldn't even have to be an updated estimate) would be super helpful. So adding these sorts of simple notes to the map would be a big help!

PS/edit: the Astra routes are a bit better and clearer, the more annoying one was Laurion-Dam which doesn't show the multiple stages, and is not to scale compared to the Talos-Dam route.

(+1)

Excellent prestige mechanic.

Bug report: In santorini if you have a water recycler installed in your rover and take the quick-cycling component there will be 2 actions with the same name: "Install Quick-Cycling Filter in Water Recycler". I presume one is for santorini and one is for the rover, but it's hard to tell.

This has already been reported and worked on for the next update. Thank you for the report

Possible bug report:

Once I got the time limit for Santorini exploding, the time limit for the dam closing was removed entirely although the timer for it opening still appears.

(+1)

This is deliberate. Originally, the timer for the dam closing was removed as soon as you got the codes to close it whenever you want (since there's no longer a need to time your arrival at the dam). However, it was pointed out that since you don't get the time limit for Santorini exploding until you've seen it explode twice, it'd be nice to keep the dam timer until you get the Santorini timer. Once you have the Santorini timer, there's no use for the dam closing timer anymore. The dam opening timer remains, since that can still affect you (if you're part way across the dam when it reopens).

(+2)

Ah good to know. Thanks for replying. Hope you have an awesome day!

Very slight bug at the dam:

First it says "The dam siren warns you of its impending closure shortly before the water flow is cut off and the crossing is revealed," then it says "You send the signal to close the dam, and watch with satisfaction as the water level slowly lowers until the crossing becomes visible."

(+1)

Thanks, fixed for vNext!

(+2)

Haven't played since the PDA update but omg the music is kinda fire especially Estrape and the notes are a good way to refresh on the lore. Still one of my favorite games ever

I would like to report a small bug: The text in the Notes section of the PDA, specifically the text in the Artifacts: Santorini Artifact and Facilities: Santorini, the one that says "Each loop, a wave of pure energy emanates from Santorini, vaporising matter in a huge area. [...]". In the text is "It didn't quite reach me at the dam", but I first got the message halfway (I think) to Astrape. (I never stalled at the dam or tried to evacuate before the explosion)

You're right, but it's not going to be an easy fix. The game tracks if you've witnessed the explosion (without being caught in it), but not where you were when you saw it. I'll see what I can do for the Strabo update though.

(1 edit)

Huh. As an ameteur coder myself, I thought this wouldn't take much effort. Unless I'm mistaken, that's the only use for the tracking? If so, you might be able to create 2 bools for both the dam and halfway to astrape, and add/change each one when they change. Or you could expand that to 2 messages, as it would be welcome to know specifically how large the blast radius is.

(+2)

In principle, yes, until you consider that the log for witnessing the explosion is already one of the top 3 most complex logs in the entire game (alongside the rover out of power and drinking the first water bottle logs). There are I think ~16 different variants for witnessing it from different locations/distances, while travelling in different ways, and if/how many times you've witnessed/died to it before.

The actual of adding a new log for witnessing it from one side or the other, and tracking that with a flag would be incredibly simple. Making sure that none of the existing logs get shown when one of the new ones does, and that neither of the new ones overlaps with any of the old ones will be a significant task.

(2 edits) (+1)

perhaps it would be easier to reword the log itself? something to the effect of "Being able to see the size of the explosion, it seems I will be safe as long as I'm not past the dam" This takes it from "I survived it here" to "I witnessed it". you could even add a flag for if astrape was reached to instead add a "past the dam or at astrape" at the end

edit: flag not being for if you were at astrape when it happened, just a flag purely for if the character would even know where astrape is to begin with

(+3)

overall, really good game I 100% everything so far, I am generally not a fan of ideal games but this one managed to knock it out of the park! The slow, combination of different actions was a pretty great way of speeding things up and kept the game feeling fresh. The only thing I didn't really like was the water recycler on Laurion since it was just so slow. However, Laurion was probably my favorite location since it somewhat forced you to use the wait button in order to get the artifact which was a cool way of showing the player how to use a mechanic. I also noticed I never died from hunger, it was always water..... Anyways, great game all around.

(+4)

Absolutely loved this game and was thoroughly obsessed with it even after I completed all the current content. 10/10 can't wait to see what Shadowsand makes next!

(+2)

It did take me 45 loops but that was because I didn't pay attention for the first 10 LOL

I quite enjoyed this game, however I fear there might a bug with the import/export function of saves.
After playing for a bit yesterday I exported the save to a textfile, and when trying to import the same save today it say that the save is not vaild.
The start ("0.4.5.20;") and end ("==") of the string is till there so it does not appear to have been cut off, although more than that I can not really tell what have gone wrong.

Odd, I've not heard of anyone having that issue before. If you post the save on the Discord server then I can take a look at it.

That save string is 6169 characters long. All Base64-encoded strings have to be a multiple of 4 characters long, so the closest it should be is either 6168 or 6172 characters. I tried writing a quick test which runs through the entire string, removing each character and testing if that makes it valid, but no luck there. So either you accidentally deleted/didn't copy 3 or more characters, or at least 5 characters were accidentally added.

FWIW, the discord link is set to never expire, and still works for me. I have had people have issues with it before though. I believe if you open discord, click the + button at the bottom of the server list, then "Join a Server" at the bottom and paste the link it, then it should work. Among other things, the discord has a save bank. It doesn't cover everything, but if you don't have any other saves backed up, it should get you close to where you were.

I have a small question: What happens if you touch the artifact (or just, do practically anything else) without the PDA strapped?

Interactions which refer to the PDA have different text for if you don't have it. There are also minor gameplay differences, such as being unable to perform certain actions, or see certain information if you don't have the PDA. It's nothing major (for now) but not taking the PDA is basically planned to be a form of optional challenge run.

The artifact disappears after touching it, doesn't it? What happens if you strap the PDA after touching the artifact? Do you have to restrap the PDA every time? Are the notes saved?

If you strap the PDA after touching the artifact, then there is special dialogue describing some of the cubes from the artifact passing between your wrist and the PDA. The PDA is still kept between loops.

But if you do stuff (like, something that might update the Notes section of the PDA) before strapping the PDA on?

It should backfill everything I think

Found small glitch on web version.  I started to install Generator in Laurion as combined action.  Then stopped partway through to leave the rover and grab some food and water.  When I returned to the rover, the action showed as partially completed, but when I clicked to start it, it started at the beginning again which I hadn't planned on because of limited resources.  I assume it should have continued where it was in progress?

I am assuming that you are talking about the install action from the rover from outside Laurion.

certain location-based actions are only saved while you are still at that location and if you leave the location they reset. In my experience the green ones reset if you leave the location. Also…I’d pull a power cell, power up Laurion, park the rover, and then install the generator instead.

(+1)

Correct - all travel actions reset if you travel. There is a UI bug where combined actions containing travel actions don't show that reset until you start progressing then though. I'll be aiming to fix it in v0.5, since I need to do other work on combined actions.

(+1)

I've 100%'d all the stuff so far. Can't wait for the next update!
P.S. if there's any extra stuff in the download lemme know

(+4)

Nope, download and web are identical for now. Glad you enjoyed the game so far :)

Didn't fully finish all available content but I think I'm going to wait for the steam release and restart it from there. Very much looking forward to completing this in the future

I had to come back and finish it all. Turns out I was pretty close to the end anyway. One feature I'd like to see in the game, although probably not a good fit if there's no more kinds of automation unlocked, is easily being able to max food/water/air supplies before leaving an area. I always find myself stopping a travel action before completion and just spamming queue on all the resupply actions just so when I leave I have the max resources possible. Any way of making that a little bit easier would be nice

if you long press an action it will stop it just before finishing. (I think there’s a different action on computer)

(+1)

You press the right mouse button to almost complete an action, but not quite..

(+2)

Aaand, done! Just played through, then 100%d, the whole game (so far!) and I really enjoyed it!! The story was compelling and kept me engaged through the repetitions of the loop! Although starting out did get a bit tedious, admittedly. Spoilers ahead!

Santorini's explosive event occurring at just under 22 minutes makes me wonder if it's a deliberate reference to a certain other sci-fi time loop game that features a comparable event at around the 22 minute mark in the loop; are you familiar with Outer Wilds?

(This game gave me certain Outer Wilds vibes, although obviously it's very different, the time loop gameplay where you start each loop formulating a plan to follow up on what you learned previously is similarly engaging, which is high praise!)

The music in Astrape doesn't play when you're on the roof, which gives the amusing impression that it is actually blasting on the speakers inside the building :p (also the music overall in this game is really good, especially Astrape's theme! I wish I could download it for my playlist somewhere!) One note I do have is that the red text in action descriptions is pretty low-contrast against the grey background of action descriptions. It was just a little bit straining on my eyes to read. You might want to pick a darker red text? There are contrast calculators online that can help you with this :) Can't wait to uncover the mysteries of Strabo, Hippocrates, and Pneuma when they release! Wishlisted on Steam and I'll be sure to buy it when it comes out there, too! Is there any way I can be notified of updates here on itch?

(+2)

Really glad you enjoyed the game!

While I have played (and loved) Outer Wilds, the similar timing is very much a coincidence. In fact, when Santorini was first added, I believe it was closer to 25 minutes, but it got brought forward for balance reasons.

The contrast of the red test was brought up before, and I did adjust it. Though it has just occurred to me that there are at least two bits of text which can be coloured red, and only one of them may have been adjusted. So I'll check on the other one.

If you follow the game on Itch, I always post an announcement with major content patches, so you should get notified of those.

(+3)

This game completely took over my life for a week, it is so fun!! I finished all the content the game had and I'm kinda heartbroken that I can play it so much faster than you can develop it. I'm already in the discord server and I'm excitedly looking forward to further updates. The storytelling is great and the gameplay is oddly satisfying

Hey just wanted to say that I really like this game and will be getting it when it comes out! Its so simple but soo good (hope the story stays as good as it is right now!).  Oh btw I noticed that when you try to install the  Quick-Cycling filter on the water recycler in santorini it cant distinguish between yours and the one from Santorini (the one I had installed in my rover and the other in santorini). The text looked identical in both (but I have to check again and see if there was a small difference)

this is a known bug and is already in the works.

I LOVE this game. I'm in Santorini rn because I need mining stuff, and I still have so much farther to go. This is a  blast! Literally, I just got nuked XD

Bug Report

Not sure if this is a bug or intended feature, but you cannot install the Quick-Cycling Filter from Santorini in Astrape for whatever reason. Even if the water recycler in Astrape is in perfect condition, and the power grid at Astrape hasn't seen any surges in that loop because the Power Artifact isn't at Astrape. Thanks for reading.

EDIT(has nothing to do with Bug Report):

So I don't waste my time waiting out at the blocked up tunnel, I remember being able to visit some coordinates the first time i checked this place out, but I can't go there anymore... is there anything that I can still do in that general area currently, or no? thanks for the help!

When the Steam version is released, will a price be put on it? if so, what is an estimated range of the cost? once again, thanks for your time.

The quick filter not being installable in Astrape is intended. It specifies that you have to be able to "get at the internals of the recycler" to install the quick filter. This means you can only install it on mobile recyclers (the ones found at Laurion or Santorini which can be loaded on the rover), and not on recyclers which are built into a facility.

The coordinates you go to near the tunnel are a one -time visit to check out what was there. You learned some info which will be useful in future content, which you can review in the Notes section of your PDA. Once you've been there, the only reason to return to the tunnel is to get the power cells from the rover.

The expected price for the steam version will be £5.

(+3)

alright thanks for the info

this game is awesome for how relatively simple it is. £5 is an equally great deal

I found a bug.

I just reached Astrape for the first time last loop, so I'm preparing for the next journey there, but I noticed that the water purifier that I just installed into the rover wasn't producing water with the "Charging disabled" red text.

I don't know how I did it, and when I reloaded the save it fixed it.

Edit: This game is awesome.

Edit2: I tried the discord link to check if it was known, but it didn't let me through.

Edit3: Figured it out, the lightning that disables it is the problem. The loop doesn't disable the lightning's effect.

(+2)

So, what you're calling "lightning", is electricity discharging from the ground. my thought process there is this:

[YAP SESH IMMINENT]

yk how when you're first looking at the civilian vehicles in the vehicle bay at Astrape, how the description mentions the vehicles not containing any internal power generation? well, it also mentions how there is a circuit under the paved roads that would transmit wireless power.

HISTORY NERD STUFF WARNING: this is technology that was first discovered by Nikola Tesla, but his facilities were sabotaged bc of bigheaded people with their eyes only on the money that is made from selling other electronics. Tesla wanted to advance society, but society didn't want to be advanced. In recent years this ideas being innovated into tech such as wireless chargers for phones, apple/smart watches, and most recently: electric car charging. This society seems to have normalized it and perfected its effectiveness.

NORMAL TALK AGAIN: that strayed a little bit off topic, but basically this planet uses technology thats only used a little bit today. When you get near Astrape, it mentions how the farmland recedes into paved roads/ground. My theory is there's the same wireless transfer circuits under this as well, and the power grid has a new connection(your rover), and the power to your rover surges. This would cause the large electrical arc that hits your rover damaging your air recycler and destroying your pressure regulator, and complex machinery, such as a water recycler, are absolutely fried.

How to fix this problem [MINOR SPOILERS]: I have not tried this yet, but I think that just putting the water recycler in the trunk and NOT installing it will cause its internal electronics to not get fried. I have already touched all the current artifacts and [spoiler] the power doesn't surge for me anymore. [spoiler ends] If anyone still receives surges and wants to try this out, lmk how it turns out please.

for anyone who has beared with me throughout this probably 2-5 minute read, i award you with the "pretty much wasted your time" award. hooray! you did it.

also Shadowplay200007, sorry if the beginning sounded rude or condescending. i merely used "lightning" because thats how you worded it. no hate. hope ur day was wonderful.

No problem, and I did word it a bit wrong there, but my problem was that the power surge's effect wasn't getting undone when the loop restarted for that water purifier and only a reload was getting it charging again.  Also, I tried going there with the purifier uninstalled in the rover, but it still fries it completely.

ah, yea that seems like a problem lol

Yes, you are correct - there are two bugs here. One which stops the disabled effect from resetting when you loop, and another which stops it from being kept when you reload. Both have been fixed for vNext. Thanks for the report! 😃

this game is super fun and it's so minimal XD I love iT!

(+1)

If this game is an "incremental" then so is Death Stranding lol

(+2)

wdym? It’s absolutely incremental

It's safe to say it's stretching the boundaries of  the genre. It has upgrades and timegates, but it's more like a traditional puzzle adventure game with a rebirth mechanic. (So, kinda like Blue Prince.)

That would be another good example of an incremental

I'm completely stumped by the Astrape airlock. I don't understand what the words mean.

(+3)

Do you mean the airlock where you can bring your rover into Astrape? If so, you first have to go to where the airlock is and cycle it so you have access to your rover. Then, you have to go to the rover and click "drive into airlock". Once that is done, you have to get out of the rover and cycle the airlock again. After you do this, the rover will be inside Astrape, and you won't have to go outside to replenish your air.

I hope this helps!

it'd be better to leave rover outside anyway.

Why would leaving the rover outside be better?

i'd take too much time to cycle through airlock. it will be much faster to just go outside and then come back. and even so, all that rover can offer is water and air (possibly leaking), which is not deficit at Astrape.

(+1)

over time it would take more time to cycle in and out than it would to bring it in because then you don’t have to enter/exit the rover, it just is in there. I’m not sure what you’re talking about with the water and air, they are absolutely limiting factors that you MUST have a source of.

there are significant stores of air there, yes. But there is no generation other than what your rover can provide until after you’ve solved it anyway.

(+1)

Will there ever be android version?

(+2)

I might look into it at some point, but it won't be a priority. And if I do make an android version, it'll likely only be available from Itch still, as I don't want to have to pay more fees to put it on the app store.

(+2)

you could use alternative stores like f-droid :)

would it be possible to extend the steam version to linux ?

(+1)

I do plan to, yes. I only didn't include it in the initial demo because it was a lot more complex than I expected to set everything up for steam. Limiting it to 1 platform simplified things, but now that I know roughly what I'm doing, I should be able to add the Linux version relatively easily.

it would be really nice :)

Worked fine via Proton when I tried

yeah but its the same sentiment like saying, you can simply install windows on  a virtual machine or as a secondary os. I do much more prefer when the game / framework developers provide a more native way to use the application on linux

(+6)

Great game, solid mechanics & UX, intriguing enough plot.

I like this kind of "pathfinding" puzzle.

I guess an editor to create our own  combined actions would be hard and overkill to implement. But a simpler "retrace your steps" could go a long way to smooth out loop starts.

(1 edit)

A manipulation on the queue system would be great and might achieve the same result.

(+4)

Honestly, Increlution being mentioned as an inspiration is funny because this game is miles better

never played increlution but from what I know yes, this is an amazing game

(+4)

(SSSpoiler-ish?)

What an amazing game man, currently can baaaareely get to Astrape and explore it but goddamn this game has been a DELIGHT so far! Looking out for the next updates, good luck man! (Especially Strabo, wanted to go there first, sad :( )

This music is very fiting ngl

I would like to take the mobile generator From Talos To Santorini (via Dam),
Call the Tram (to Central, or maybe Quarry area), unload the generator from Rover & load the generator onto the Tram, if possible with a Water recycler and the Mining machines Motors too (or I need to do multiple trips for all those, depends on how large the tram is?), then send all that over to Astrape, as a back-up for the stuff that gets blown up by the power surges.

That's what I would have tried in that situation, evacuate as much as possible from the "blowing up area" into the "need that stuff" area.

have you finished all of Astrape? Once you fix the power problems (I can consistently get that after my tenth or so visit) you won’t need to worry about it at all.

In regards to the question about the trips. You would need to make multiple trips and you would have to unload the tram at the far end.

Nonetheless I can’t argue about those features being helpful.

When I check the cryopods, the PDA says there's a new note, but there isn't.

Nevermind, the note does appear, but not immediately. It appears when another note appears.

did you click through all the drop downs in the notes section? I have had some hiding in those in the past.
